Another Example of Partial Determinism

I will present another example of partial determinism. As I mentioned, this technique can be applied in many situations. After this example, you will be left on your own to sort through situations yourself.

Figure 14(a) highlights a red "3" which has been partially flagged with two flags. The third mine exists in one of the two cells highlighted with pink in Figure 14(b). The one mine which exists in either one of these two cells also satisfies the second mine needed by the "2" highlighted in Figure 14(b). Therefore the cell marked "X" does not have a mine and can be cleared.

Figure 14
(a) The highlighted "3" restricts the location of a mine. (b) The location of the mine in the pink area also satisfies the highlighted "2". The cell marked "X" can be cleared. (c) The cleared cell is fully determined and can be cleared with a double-button click.

If you look further, the red box also satisfies the second mine needed by the "2" above the "3" highlighted in Figure 13(a). Three cells around this "2" could be cleared with left-clicks. This play works, but is not as quickly obvious than the sequence outlined in the example.
