Like lifting heavier weights, playing more difficult, custom levels of Minesweeper can improve your solving abilities and make Expert level seem like a cake walk.

If you're capable of solving Expert level, don't stop there. Move up to a custom board of size 24 by 30 (maximum). Starting with 150 mines in this field will be the same level of difficulty as Expert level. Work at this level until you are comfortable with it.

Next, use the custom level to create a 24 by 30 board with 160 mines. Again, work this level, playing until you've become confident that you've improved your logic skills. Once you've mastered 160 mines, move up to 170, then 180.

Once you can solve a 180 mine board about 40% of the time, your problem solving abilities will have improved dramatically. As your problem solving abilities improve with increasing mine density, your times at Expert level should drop.
